Who Sticks Blank Post it notes in books?
Okay, I am cheap. I buy second hand books. I buy all the second hand books that I can find. But these previously owned books are wonderful. Not only are they dirt cheap, readable, and I find some really rare titles, but they sometimes also give me a window into their earlier owner’s personality.![]()
I’ve seen books with names written on them, with gift notes, with lots of scribbling on the margins, highlighted, crossed, underlined, dog-eared, and on… and on… But sometimes I run into things that surprises even ol’ second-hand book reading, penny-pinching, cheapskating, me.
I told you guys earlier about that book which had every swear word highlighted, or underlined so that nobody would avoid noticing them. Here’s another weird one.
This new book ‘Cosm’ by Gregory Benford, who by the way is a respectable author, has empty post-it notes stuck on random pages. These post-it notes are totally blank too. Now why would anyone do that? Post-it notes can’t serve as bookmarks, cause they’re too thin. You can only run into them again if you’re reading the book, or looking for them.
There aren’t any notes on them, so apparently the reader wasn’t planning to put their own commentary about the content
. So why did they stick empty post-it notes here and there?
If you can answer this one. Let me know.
